Insulating an Attic in Turners Falls, MA

This homeowner in Turners Falls, MA called us believing that she had inadequate insulation or no insulation at all in her attic. She believed that it was exceptionally bad above her former three season room that had been converted. According to the homeowner, they had had blown-in insulation added above the fiberglass batts in their attic, but insulation was not added in all of it. When our Home Comfort Specialist came out to the home, he found that the homeowner was correct. In the majority of the attic, they had fiberglass batts with blown-in cellulose insulation added on top of it. However, the attic insulation was dramatically lower in one area of the attic, and then was missing entirely from another area that was above the former three-season room.

We had the perfect solution for this customer. We were able to replace the attic insulation with TruSoft™ cellulose insulation. We started by removing the fiberglass batts, putting them into bags and bringing them out of the house. We then removed the loose fiberglass insulation with a large vacuum. We then went in and air-sealed around all of the points where air leaks up from the home to the attic. We did this using our Zypfoam™ spray foam. Once the attic was air sealed, we used a long hose to blow in TruSoft™ cellulose insulation. TruSoft™ is amazing -- it does not burn, get moldy, or attract pests. The blown-in insulation fills all gaps and oddly shaped voids. The homeowner is now much more comfortable in her home!

Reducing Humidity in a Basement in South Windsor, CT

This homeowner called us out to their home in South Windsor, CT to take a look at some serious problems they were experiencing. The main reason they called Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions was because they were having issues with mold in their kitchen and basement. Due to some water damage over time there was mold under the kitchen sink, leaking down onto the rim joist in the basement. Humidity issues in the basement also took a part in that. When we got to the home we asked the homeowner about all of their concerns, for the entire home. The mold issue was their main concern, but they also were experiencing another problem. Their basement was always very uncomfortably humid. The rim joist is the perimeter of the floor framing system along the exterior of the house. The joints and gaps in the framing members allow for a great deal of air leakage in and out of the home. This can result in cold floors, high heating and cooling bills, as well as condensation in the basement and crawlspaces. When its hot and humid out, the homeowner was experiencing this poor air quality. This was due to outside air easily leaking into the home, making the basement an uncomfortable space. First we take care of the kitchen issues, and we can focus on the basement. Now, we know what we need to do to help this homeowner.

The first thing we need to do is spray our Mold-X treatment spray on the effected areas on the rim joist. We make sure we take care of all of the mold in the basement in order to be able to properly air seal with no reoccurring mold issues. After we have completed this step we are ready to air seal. We spray our two-part expanding SprayFoam  over the rim joist and end plates. This stops all air leaks from outside and insulates this important part of your home. Dr. Energy Savers SprayFoam has a high insulation value of R7. Since this foam expands after we spray, it seals up all of the gaps, cracks, and joints where air from the outside was easily entering the home. This finally corrected the basement mold and humidity problem. Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, this homeowner is now more comfortable, happy, and energy efficiently in their home no matter the season!!
