The problem

Mr. Cloghesy had an earthen crawl space which was very wet. Moisture from the crawl space spreads to upper floors and sometimes creates a foul odor. He contacted Systèmes Sous-sol Québec to install a vapor barrier in his crawl space in order to regain the comfort of his home and use the space as storage.

The solution

 Install our drainage membrane as well as our CleanSpace coating. The drainage membrane is installed on the earthen floor, it creates a drainage space for water to flow to the interior French drain or sump pump system. Ideal for covering earthen and rocky ground, it creates an air space which acts as a thermal cushion giving a certain insulation value. Next, our 20mm thick CleanSpace liner is a blend of high and low density polyethylene making it puncture resistant and flexible. It thus blocks moisture from the basement and gives a clear and clean appearance to the void.

In Havelock, this crawl space was causing several problems that homeowners are all too familiar with: persistent dampness, odors wafting into the house, early signs of mold, and a structure that was beginning to weaken over time. The space was far from healthy and risked compromising both the structural integrity of the home and everyday comfort. To set things right, our team opted for a comprehensive and sustainable solution: installing the CleanSpace® system to insulate and protect the floor, adding a drainage membrane for better water control, reinforcing the joists with the SmartJack® system, and installing the SmartSump™ sump pump to ensure effective drainage of any accumulated water. After our work, the difference is clear: the crawl space is now dry, clean, and much more stable. Fortunately, our team stepped in with a seamless solution. On the floor we installed CleanSpace drainage matting and TerraBlock since the temperature fluctuation was significant. And on the walls we installed SilverGlo thermal insulation. As noticed in the after photo, we transformed the previously damp and neglected crawlspace into a dry, energy-efficient, and healthy area under the home. Problem:

Moisture in the basement. The concrete block foundation walls were not insulated and Ms. Ducharme therefore wished to have them insulated.

The efflorescence (white color) on the concrete shows that there has been infiltration of water and humidity through the walls.

 Solution:

Insulate concrete walls with our Foamax insulation panels. Made of high performance polyisocyanurate foam and coated with a white finish on one side and a vapor barrier on the back, Foamax makes the basement warmer and brighter.
